You probably don't need another five subscriptions
Start with one recurring task. Build a small toolkit around work you actually do.
Every week there’s a new AI tool promising to transform your business. Most of them want a monthly subscription. Some want your data. All of them want your attention.
Here’s a different approach: start with one task.
Pick the task that eats your time
Think about your week. What’s the one recurring job that takes longer than it should? Maybe it’s:
- Writing follow-up emails after meetings
- Turning rough notes into something shareable
- Creating social media posts from a business update
- Researching suppliers or comparing options
That’s your starting point. Not “AI strategy.” Not “digital transformation.” Just one job that you do repeatedly and wish took less time.
Try one tool on that one task
Don’t sign up for five things. Pick one tool, give it your real task (not a made-up test), and see what comes back.
Judge it on three things:
- Did it save you time? Including the time spent setting it up and fixing the output.
- Was the quality acceptable? After your edits, would you be happy sending it?
- What did it get wrong? Every tool has blind spots. Learn them early.
Build from there
If it works, great. You’ve got a small, useful addition to your workflow. If it doesn’t, you’ve lost an hour, not a monthly subscription.
Once you’ve got one tool earning its keep, you’ll have a much better sense of what to look for in the next one.
The toolkit mindset
The best toolkit is small, practical, and built around your actual work. Not someone else’s workflow. Not a YouTube influencer’s stack. Yours.
We’ll be testing tools against real business tasks and sharing what we find. Start with one task. See if AI can give you a useful first draft. Go from there.
